Well, it wouldn’t be November in the Turks & Caicos Islands if the annual Conch Festival were not just right around the corner! This year, the 11th Annual Conch Festival will take place on November 29 beachside at noon. The Conch Festival is an amazing day of food, fun and local music and events that is not to be missed! The festivities culminate in a “Conch-e-tition” in which local restaurants compete to see who can make the best Conch Salad, Conch Chowder and Specialty Conch. Last year, Hemingways took Best in Show, while Bay Bistro, Opus and Parallel 23 all placed in the competition.
For festival-goers, this event is a lively and dynamic gathering in which a diverse slice of people, young and old, foreign and native wander side-by-side sampling delicious and flavorful conch-themed goodies, while delighting in Calypso and Reggae music. Indeed, attendees can please their palates on conch fritters, conch chowder, conch lasagna, conch callaloo soup, and maybe even a savory conch burger dripping in tartar sauce! Other Caribbeanthemed vendors are often in attendance, too, so there will usually be plenty of Turks Head Beer and Bambarra Rum to quench your thirst!
The Conch Festival is definitely a favorite with families with kids, and activities in years past have included a potato sack race, a threelegged
race, an inflatable bouncy house, a tug-of-war and ice-cream! For teenagers and adults, the Conch Blowing Competition and the Cultural Conch Quiz are definitely not to be missed!
